Zoom’s R12 MultiTrak is a compact recorder for building songs away from a computer. Two XLR/TRS inputs handle recording up to two tracks at once, while the unit plays back up to eight tracks. Its color touchscreen puts cutting, copying, looping, and editing on the recorder itself. Each track has pan and 3-band EQ, while input channels 1 and 2 have compression. Send effects, 150 drum loops, sample import, and Sequence Play make it useful for demos, song production, rehearsal backing tracks, and live playback.
