Dream’s 20 in. Dark Matter Energy Ride combines a dry, gritty foundation with clearly defined stick sound. Played with the shoulder of the stick, it opens into trashier notes and then drops away quickly, giving the player a response that changes distinctly with the strike. The cymbal is repeatedly fired as part of Dream’s Dark Matter process and is said to develop further through playing. It has hand hammering, bow lathing, a raw bell, and a gray charred-looking proprietary finish.
