Designed for tenor saxophone in MH strength, the Hinoki reed is made from polypropylene resin and cellulose wood fiber, including a wood-fiber content that is more than half bamboo. Its injection-molded construction produces a smooth vamp intended for reed-to-reed consistency. The profile supports a clear, robust basic sound with some buzz for projection, alongside stable intonation and precise articulation. The composite resists water-logging, saliva breakdown, and warping from changes in humidity or altitude, while still needing replacement once it loses response.
